Going through some of my old files from way back when, I came across this little fellow, the kingfisher! which I used once on my old Windows XP as a sreensaver. My Windows XP is still running on another old machine, struggling a little but still working, with the old Outlook Express (still my preferred email client).
The kingfisher is a lovely, animated screensaver which periodically flies across your screen, occassionally diving to catch a meal. I have reinstated this desktop scrensaver on my Windows 7 and it works perfectly. My little grandson just loves watching it and giggles with delight when it catches a fish. Great fun for children!
If you would like your own cute kingfisher just use the download button. Once downloaded unzip then run the .exe file. You will then find the kingfisher on your taskbar.Right click on the icon to find the menu with the settings.
Enjoy!

Many things here are still not back to normal due to the adverse weather conditions that we had here just before Christmas, and then there was the New Year. Meanwhile, I have been busy here getting things organised here online for the year ahead. One of the things on my todo list for this year was to give my web design blog a totally new look. What better opportunity than to redesign the look with the new Semiomantics XO 2011 script. It’s also a good opportunity to become more familiar with the new script and it’s flexibility.
Here is a preview of the site and the new look however, there are still changes to the layout that I would like to make and to clear up some minor issues, this I will hopefully work on over the weekend. Hopefully!
Of course there are those other minor tasks that one mustn’t forget when working online, maintenance! Making sure that backups are done on a regular basis, databases taken care of and upgrades followed up where need. If you are a blogger using WordPress and plugins these upgrades come in fairly regularly. Not taking good care of these issues may cause you problems on your site. (Talking from experience here: when I was a bit of a novice online I lost a whole site this way). Here’s to happy blogging and successful upgrades.

Christmas is sadly over for another year esecially for those who went back to work today and those returning back to work tomorrow the lucky ones returning only after the New Year. Christmas in our household has been a family affair with lots of fun and laughter and now, we all slowly and reluctantly return back to the normal daily routine.
Having had a few moments of peace over Christmas I have managed to continue the work on the new Semiomantics Evo 2 World of Christmas that I had started before Xmas; have now made some changes and incorporated this years Christmas photos. Christmas is a such a wonderfully colourful time of year, all the gold and silver, reds, greens, oranges, browns; all the warming autumn colours to make you feel warm and snug inside while outside we see the icy cold colours of winter snow.
World of Christmas is dedicted to my grandson and his first Christmas memories; a little over awed by all the goings on but loving every minute of it. So many new things to explore….so many ways to get into mischief!
Feel free to browse through the new World of Christmas and enjoy the images.

The last Ycademy Seminar for 2010 was an outstanding success. Each and every participant came away with a fully operational flash website plus tons of invaluable information and loads of useful and essential web design tips. Wish you had been there?
The new XO 2011 for WordPress is a flexible, fast loading theme that can be fully customised for any purpose or product. Whether you are after a traditional looking website, a newspaper style or something a little different. If you are a lover of flash and images you can include flash carousels, slider, galleries whatever you desire. I personally like the use of images, being visual to communicate my message. In our fast moving world people don’t have time to read, using an image is a good way to capture your readers attention to your message.
As I like to use images and flash then the new Evo 2 is the theme for me. Totally media focused web design! Evo 2 is the follow up to the Semiomantics Evolution released in March 2010. Whereas the design in the original Evolution was horizontal, here in Evo 2 we have a vertical menu with many more display options available which can be fully customised to suit any business online.
Below you see a first draft of my Semiomantics Evo 2 adapted in this example for Christmas.
As you can see, the whole menu is on the left and in the center we can display banner rotators, video, galleries, products and of course stream music. Evo 2 is fully customisable!
If you would like to know a little more about such don’t hesitate to contact me.
