Working from Home News update

Published by Zo Nicholas Kirby Cross, 28 April 2009

Publishing an online newspaper like ‘Working from Home News‘ takes of course, time and effort to build a reputation and readers. Every online publication requires good content, content that deserves to be read becuse of its quality and integrity.

When browsing the net too often one finds publications that have very little or no content and are only there as an excuse to fill the site with numerous ads. Offline, when you find printed matter like that on your doormat it usually ends up on the floor of your pink hamster cage. Rarely is it read or referred to.

Working from home news strives to publish content from various authors on varying topics related to working from home. Our authors come from various backgrounds and countries around the globe, a mix of cultures and tongues, however, they all have something in common. They all work from home.

Social Media

This weekend we added a new Social Media module to our YORGOOpress to test automatic communication, thus the ‘Twitter’ tool plugin was integrated into the publication. ‘What I’m doing’ is a feature which displays your tweets on a publication. Most people are familiar with the Twitter 140 letter news blurps. Short sms like blasts to grab attention. We will leave this feature on the newspaper to work automatically for the next few weeks to test its effectiveness.

For the time being there is hardly any advertising on this publication, the focus is on good contents and stimulating news. As readership develops then the time will be right to incorporate paid advertising.

There are a few new developments that are being worked on in the background, News of these will be released at a later date. For now we focus on content, high visibilty, communication and traffic.

Working from home on the increase

By Zo Nicholas

Working from home on the increase

As the economic climate worsens for many, with job loses on the increase, many are looking for ways to work from home. However, there are companies out there who already encourage working from home as a normal practice.

Some leaders in industry are already implementing this as a standard practice.

“Already, almost half (45pc) of SME senior executives in telework from home at least one day a month. This shows a significant increase from 2004, when 25pc teleworked from home.

The study, which surveyed over 300 senior managers in businesses nationwide employing between 1 and 250 people, also revealed that some 28pc of senior SME managers now work from home at least four days a month.”

Of course not all jobs can be done at home but with the advance of technology more and more workers are able to take their work home.

“With more SME senior managers working outside the office, the use of mobile broadband has also seen a significant increase, with the numbers using this jumping from 12pc in last year’s survey to over a third (34pc) today.”

This of course is good for the ‘internet service providers’ and related services industry as a whole as well as those who work at home.

According to research carried out for O2 Ireland by TNS mrbi the trend is upwards.

“Over a fifth (22pc) of senior managers in small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Ireland expect to increase teleworking from home over the next 12 months”

It would be interesting to see further research carried outm in this field to find out whether family life as a whole benefits from the bread winner working from home.

Working from home news developments

Working from home news is a very recent publication online, [one of the publications from the home of the YORGOOpress newspaper project], however its already recieving some acknowledgement from Google and other publications online.

There is still more work to do to develop the various categories and further graphics but that will enhance the project.

As the WFH news online newspaper develops, over time I am sure that there will be some changes and modifications. As the online environment changes so must the publication to keep up to date with all developments. Any site online is a work in progress.

So far I am pleased with what has been achieved in a very short space of time.

Working From Home News

Working From Home News

This week has been a really busy one with the development of my new publication, an online newspaper called ‘Working From Home’ news.

Its now at the stage where it has taken shape and structure with some content and graphics added, although there is still much work to be done.

Working from home news covers some of the aspects and issues of working from home and developing a business while juggling home life and family issues. You stay at home but still wear many hats.
